Dust Everything
- A/C vents
- Ceiling fans
- Baseboards
- Blinds
- Windows and sills
- Walls
- Ceilings
Clean and Replace as Needed
- Vents
- Fireplace
- Paint (outside and inside)
- Front door
- Light switches
- Light bulbs
- Doors, knobs, and hinges
- Drawer pulls on cabinets
- Blinds
- Carpets
- Chandeliers
Make Everything Welcoming and Inviting
- Remove any furniture that you don't need
- Maximize floor space by rearranging floor space
- Minimize. Pack up knick-knacks, figurines, and personal photos
- Remove all but a few books from their shelves
- Reduce the amount of wall art
- Balance plant life by reducing or adding
- Brighten the room by adding lamps to dark areas
- Leave your home smelling clean and fresh but avoid using heavily scented candles
Kitchen
- Pack away all dishes and cooking supplies that you don't use
- Empty the garbage before the house is shown
- Clear all items from the counter tops
- Replace the burner pans if needed
- Clean the tile grout
- Clean and polish the sink to make it look new
- Clear all magnets, messages and pictures from the refrigerator
- Keep all brooms, mops, and vacuums put away
- Remove pet food and dishes before the house is shown
- Organize your pantry
- Clean the microwave, stove, and oven
- Do a deep clean in the refrigerator
Dining Room
- Remove any extra chairs from the dining room and table to make it look more roomy
- Take out extra leaves from the table
- The bottom of the chandelier should be at least 60" from the floor.
- Clear everything from the dining table except for one centerpiece
Living Room
- Remove any ashtrays
- Keep coffee tables clear of excess "stuff"
- Furniture should be at a minimum
- Pack away any toys
- Use throws and pillows for a softer appearance
Bedrooms
- Purchase new bedspreads if needed
- Make beds everyday
- Keep bedside tables clear
- Remove most wall decor except for one or two tasteful pieces
- Repair and paint any damage to walls or nail holes
- Organize your closets and keep the closet doors shut
- Vacuum regularly and keep floors clear
Laundry
- Remove all laundry - clean and dirty
- Keep floor cleared
- Use high watt light bulbs
- All surfaces should be clear and clean
- Pack away soap and supplies in the cabinet
Baths
- Clean and keep clear all surfaces
- Organize cabinets
- Buy new towels if necessary
- Hide cleaning supplies and trash cans
- Display a bottle of hand soap
- Replace caulking around tubs and sink
- Fold towels in thirds on towel rack
- Replace or clean the shower curtain
- Take out any unnecessary items in the shower or bath
- Remove any cloth toilet lids and keep lids closed
Garage
- Repaint if necessary
- Pack away anything you don't use. Consider a storage unit.
- Sweep out the garage and cobwebs on the ceiling
- Make everything nice and neat
Exterior
- Sweep all walkways, decks, porches, and patios
- Power wash if necessary to remove mildew and to freshen everything up
- Re-stain decking if needed
- Clean and repaint your front door if necessary
- Replace all rotten wood
- Consider repainting the exterior trim and any painted surfaces
- Wash the windows
- Take a look at your home from the street, objectively
- Use outdoor furniture to accent the space
Yard
- Remove dead plants
- Weed where needed
- Freshen flower beds with new mulch
- Prune bushes and trees as needed
- Shrubs should not block the windows
- Keep your lawn freshly mowed
- Add some flowers for color
