Lower Alabama is well-known for the Gulf of Mexico, of course, and its many bayous, bays, lakes, and waterways. One of the main water attractions in Baldwin County is Fish River, which is 28.9 miles long; it starts near Stapleton AL and ends at Weeks Bay. Most of the deeper portions of the river, however, are about 9 miles long and run through rural areas including the east side of Fairhope, the west side of Summerdale, Magnolia Springs, Silverhill, and Foley.
Public boat access is located on 2 places on Fish River: one is located under the bridge of Hwy 98 where Fish River flows into the mouth of Weeks Bay, and the other boat launch is located about 5 miles upstream near the intersection of Hwy 9 and Honey Road.
Fish River is a tidal system that fluctuates anywhere from 1 to 1.5 feet on a daily basis. Go to this link to see the Tide Times for Fish River, which are taken from where Fish River enters into Weeks Bay.
Really interesting fact about a community along Fish River
A couple hundred residents who live in Magnolia Springs along the river are served by the nation's only full-time mail courier who delivers mail everyday by boat. Mailboxes for these homes are literally on their boat docks and mail service has been going on in this fashion for over 100 years.
This is the only water mail route in the country that operates all year around with over 200 residents receiving the entirety of their mail at the water.
